Oil Cooler Kits
We are often asked what type of oil our engines should use and the answer is that they are designed to run on old fashioned mineral oil, not modern semi or fully synthetic oil. For maximum protection, the oil and filter should be changed every 3000 miles, or if the engine has overheated. Unlike synthetic oils, mineral can not withstand overheating and will break down and stop protecting the engine. In order to avoid this, we recommend that an oil cooler kit with a thermostat is fitted to engines of 330 bhp and above. Fitting an oil cooler without a thermostat can also damage an engine, by not allowing the oil to reach it’s optimum tempreture.
We supply both standard and custom made oil cooler kits for our range of engines, which include the following:-
- Correct sized (row) oil cooler for application
- Pipes & fittings
- Thermostatic take off plate *
- New reduced height oil filter
* Sandwhich plate, which fits between the block and the reduced height oil filter and avoids the need for a remote oil filter system
- Kits are available either as standard with cut to length hoses or are custom made with high pressure braided hoses and fittings
- Top up oil available with kits, to avoid oil starvation when first starting the engine after oil cooler fitment.
