Chevy LS Series Engines
LS Chevy engines
Popular engines for TVR, Ultima, GDT70 and Cobra replicas - excellent power and reliability.
Introduced in 1997 as the successor to the small (iron) block Chevy, it included many design improvements whilst maintaining the same external dimensions and pushrod design. The engine started as the LS1 as the first in the new Gen III LS range, and was replaced by the LS6. This in turn was replaced by the Generation Four range of LS engines, with the LS2, the larger capacity LS7 and the very latest LS3 engine.
As well as being a light and compact small block design, it has the improved flow characteristics found with the big block engine. The generation III and IV engine blocks were cast in aluminium for car applications, and iron for most truck applications. The aluminium engines are nearly as strong as the iron generation I and II engines and the iron blocked LS engines far exceed the capabilities of the previous two iron blocked generations.
Among it’s many improvements, the engine introduced a coil-on-plug ignition system and the cylinder firing order was changed to 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3 to give an improved firing order. Other improvements Included as standard as follows:-
- Integral multipoint sequential fuel injection system
- Roller camshaft and lifters.
- Serpentine front pulley system with high output alternator.
- Compact power steering system available.
- 10:1 compression ratio.
- Compact oil control sump system.
- Symmetrical cylinder head design for improved gas flow.
- Displacement on demand facility for improved mpg.
The LS engine is supplied as by GM as a long engine, without ancillaries or wiring loom. The remaining parts can be supplied at the point of order, to give a turn key engine.

These modified LS3 & 7 engines are fitted with an aftermarket camshaft and roller rockers. Higher HP versions also have an aftermarket intake and / or cylinder heads. This is to achieve the best possible response and power over and above the standard GM version, while still trying to maintain a good emission and economy level. All of the HP figures are very dependant upon the vehicle type, installation and the ECU system chosen.
Ancillary pack
Our ancillary kits are required for the above engines and include the following:-
- Starter motor and bolt kit
- Alternator, bracket and bolt kit
- Pulley belt and idler
- Tensioner belt drive & bolt
Price: £640.00 plus vat
The above includes power steering, no A/C, for both F & Y body styles. Please note that Y body style will work without P/S, but F body requires a special idler not supplied by us, to work without P/S.

Control systems
We do not supply the GM ECU or loom system, and instead use the Mast M90 system, which uses the engines existing electronic throttle body. Alternatively, we can use the Omex system with it’s own mechanical throttle body. Both of these systems give excellent mapping facilities, which is ideal for today’s stringent emission requirements.
